Valentine’s Day Workout: Couples Core Challenge

Valentine’s Day is here and love is in the air. To celebrate this special holiday, Tony teamed up with his lovely fiancée, Shawna, plus Jack and Erin of JacksFilms for a couples core workout. This one-of-a-kind challenge is a fun way to exercise with your partner or workout buddy.

Schedule for Today’s Couples Core Workout

Joystick (00:58)

Partner 1 stands with their feet hip width apart, arms outstretched with hands clasped together, facing Partner 2. Partner 2 stands with their feet hip width apart, arms forward but slightly bent. Partner 1 will try to remain still, abs engaged, as Partner 2 pushes Partner 1’s hands up, down, left and right for 30 seconds. Switch positions and repeat.

Leg Throws (2:46)

Partner 1 stands with their feet hip width apart. Partner 2 lays down on the ground with their head between Partner 1’s feet. Holding on to Partner 1’s ankles for support, Partner 2 raises their legs 90 degrees as Partner 1 attempts to push them back down toward the floor. Partner 2 engages their abs and controls the downward leg movement before returning their legs to the starting position for another repetition. Partners will repeat the exercise for 30 seconds before switching positions.

Rock & Roll Sphinx (5:10)

Partner 1 moves into a plank position on a mat, legs shoulder width. Partner 2 stands straddling Partner 1 at the hips. Partner 2 gently nudges Partner 1 from side to side side using their legs while Partner 1 engages their abs for stability. Partner 2 continues the movement for 30 seconds before switching positions with Partner 1 and repeating the exercise.

Abernome Throw (7:20)

Partner 1 stands with their feet hip width apart. Partner 2 lays down on the ground with his or her head between Partner 1’s feet. Holding onto Partner 1’s ankles for support, Partner 2 raises their legs 90 degrees before Partner 1 pushes them to the left and to the right. Partner 2 engages their abs and controls the sideways leg movement before returning their legs to the starting position for another repetition. Partners will repeat the exercise for 30 seconds before switching positions.

Roller Baby (10:16)

Partner 1 lays down on a foam roller positioned lengthwise along their spine, knees bent with their feet on the ground at hip width. Partner 2 stands arms’ distance behind Partner 1’s head. Partner 1 lifts their arms overhead, palms together. Partner 2 provides resistance as Partner 1 raises their hands toward their abdomen, keeping their arms straight. As soon as Partner 1’s hands are over their chest, Partner 2 releases the resistance and Partner 1 returns hands to starting position. Repeat the exercise for a total of 30 seconds, then switch positions and repeat.
