Making red beans and rice usually takes the better part of a day to complete.
Between hydrating then cooking the red beans and making the brown rice, you could spend hours in the kitchen. While we’d love to have the time to labor over an amazingly flavorful pot of beans all day, most of us just…don’t. #notimeforthat
Ultimate Portion Fix creator Autumn Calabrese and her brother, chef Bobby Calabrese, have created a set of recipes that take into account our busy lifestyles.
They’ve modified the usual Red Beans and Rice recipe so that it can be made in under 30 minutes and tastes like you had ordered it from a sidewalk cafe in the French Quarter!
You can watch Autumn and Bobby make this recipe from start to finish on their healthy cooking show, FIXATE.
Their version of this Creole classic uses a base of fragrant veggies and a spice blend that could knock your socks off!
Smoked paprika and cayenne pepper give this dish that signature Creole flavor.
If you’re not a fan of spicy food you can reduce the amount of cayenne in the recipe or omit it altogether.
With other aromatics like garlic and thyme included in the mix, you won’t compromise the flavor of this dish by reducing the amount of heat.
