Most everything we come across in the grocery stores can be made using whole fresh ingredients. Making home made ketchup is no different. Most people have never had ketchup made from scratch, but once you’ve had a taste of the good stuff you’ll never want to go back. Our surprisingly simple to make Chipotle Ketchup recipe outdoes store bought condiments and rivals chipotle toppings served at gourmet burger joints. Beginning with organic tomato sauce we incorporate a touch of coconut sugar (or maple syrup if you prefer) and a bit of tangy cider vinegar and top it off with savory chipotle chili powder.
Tip: Pay close attention to the ingredients in your tomato sauce. Some organic tomato sauces contain added sugars and salt. Be sure to buy the no sugar added salt free version.
- 1 (15-oz.) can organic tomato sauce, no salt or sugar added
- ½ tsp . chipotle chili powder
- 1 Tbsp . cider vinegar
- 1 Tbsp . coconut sugar (or pure maple syrup)
Heat tomato sauce, chili powder, vinegar, and sugar in small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat; cover. Cool to room temperature.
Refrigerate, covered, for at least 2 hours.
