Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I had completed 10-Minute Trainer over a year ago with much success, but once I finished and got my results I just let myself go. I still worked out about 3 times a week, but my eating was horrible…although I didn’t think it was bad. I had my Shakeology everyday which was a life saver. I think without it I would have not felt as good as I did. I felt good and healthy, but I could see the fat and I could feel my clothes slowly starting to get tight again. I was constantly complaining to my husband, and just resolved to being a skinny fat person. I could look good in clothes and hide my fat well, but being 43 and a mom of 4, I thought I would never wear a bikini again! I kept telling myself, well I guess I look pretty good. But deep down I was torn up about how I let all my hard work go down the drain. A few times I decided to do it all over again, but I’d get one week in and just say F it I’m old and Italian. I’m allowed to be chubby.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I knew of Autumn before 21 Day Fix hit Beachbody, and when I heard she was the trainer I got real excited. She’s a mom, and look at her! My Coach constantly kept reminding me if I wanted my business to take flight, I had to follow the 3 Vital Behaviors every day and be a product of the product. She knew I had it in me. She would connect with me weekly to ask me about my workouts, push me to post in the Challenge Group, and ask me about my nutrition. She’s family so she knew my eating habits. I would hang up the phone with her and just beat myself up mentally trying to figure out why I didn’t care about my appearance anymore. I didn’t have an answer, I just didn’t care. As I started to see the 21 Day Fix results from the Coaches, I got even more excited and committed to buy it right away and start a Challenge Group!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
I think I had 2 challenges to overcome before starting the program. One was time. I had grown accustom to working out only 10 minutes a day so adding in another 20 minutes… I just didn’t want to do it. The second was, I got used to eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Like I said, I’m Italian and I love to eat. My Coach really got me to focus on my goals, what I wanted to get from this, and more importantly what I wanted to learn and continue to do after the 21 days. Best thing I could have ever done! I wrote out my goals and began to visualize what I wanted to look like, what I wanted to wear, what I wanted other people to say when they saw what a mom of 4 looked like! I did not miss one workout my entire 21 days. I learned how to eat ALL the yummy Italian foods that I love without over indulging. It was a food plan that worked for me and my family!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
Love Autumn’s training style, and the way she encourages and motivates you throughout each workout!! She says things in every workout that hits a target in me. She pushes me to be better than I was yesterday, and I never got bored with the routines during my 21 days. Her motivation comes through the DVD player everyday and kicks me into gear. I know I can do it, I know I can finish strong every time!! The simple eating method changed the way I look at food, and think about food. It wasn’t just a plan that I had to do on my own, I was able to use this plan with my family. I didn’t have to eat my own foods and prepare other stuff for them!! That’s a winner in my book.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I lost a total of 5 inches, 6 lbs, and 7% body fat. My Blood pressure lowered, my resting heart rate dropped by 10 bpm, AND my Cholesterol levels dropped! I’m most proud of 3 things: dropping 7% Body Fat, WoooHooo! A mom of four with a flat stomach, in 21 days – that’s success!! Lowering my resting HR by 10 bpm is note worthy. I have pectus ecavatum, where the left side of my ribcage is sunken in. Pressing on my heart and left lung. That puts limitations on my lung capacity and ability to fully engage in cardio workouts. I can definitely feel an increase in lung capacity since finishing this program.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
Well I think the BIGGEST change in my life since completing the 21 Day Fix is the way I feed my family!! Once starting the Fix, I realized my children were eating yellow containers ALL day long with just a little of the other colors through the day. Their diets were NOT balanced at all! It actually became a teaching tool around the table every night at dinner time. “Mom, what color containers am I eating tonight?”, “Mom, I have too many yellows here…where’s my green?”, “Mom, did I eat enough reds today?…maybe I should have a Shakeology for a snack, instead of a purple.” It sent me back to the drawing board as I shopped for foods and planned out family menus.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
Being a part of the group held me accountable each day! I don’t like cardio workouts, I complain every day I have to do them. I would post that in the group and a ton of people would post encouragements, and cheer me on to get it done.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey?
Dana continually encouraged and motivated me through her daily posts, recipe ideas, and just being real. She has bad days too, and it’s good to see that. We are all real people, living life, and trying to stay healthy in an unhealthy world. If I wasn’t posting she would message me, or call me, and ask what she could do to help me out that day.
How did a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program (such as Shakeology® or Beachbody Ultimate Reset®) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, digestion/regularity?
Shakeology was a great addition to my 21 Day Fix! It was one meal I didn’t have to think about or prepare. Best part, I felt a difference in my body. I no longer needed an afternoon nap; I had the energy to last all day long! I think the greatest benefit is no more heartburn. Since drinking Shakeology on a regular basis, I no longer suffer from heartburn…even on those days when I eat and drink what’s not on the Fix!
Did you achieve any other measureable improvements with a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program? (e.g. Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, triglycerides, etc…)
I had a yearly in January of 2014. I went back for another round of vitals and blood work after 21 Day Fix and my RHR went from 82 to 72, my total Chol went from 180 to 141, my blood sugar went from 84 to 74, and my blood pressure lowered from 108/64 to 90/58.
