Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before starting my journey, I was tired and hungry all the time. I was depressed at times. I certainly didn’t like the looks of the guy staring back in the mirror. I went to bed many a night only to wake up a few hours later with acid reflux. I found I was focused on all the negatives at work- I was the victim. I was addicted to sugar. I’d tell myself in the morning “today is gonna be the day I stop eating sugary crap”. I might make it a day. Most days I didn’t make it til 10. Sometimes I’d lay in bed at night and wonder when my lifestyle was gonna catch up with me. Is this the year the doctor says I have diabetes. Will I get a second chance? What if it’s a massive heart attack? I knew my lifestyle was eventually going to kill me, I just didn’t have the tools I needed to stop the train from derailment… enter Team Beachbody.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I have 3 young children, a daughter who is 8 and twin boys who are 5. Part of the reason I let myself go (at least this was the lie I told myself) was the stress of dealing with 3 young children. The last few years I noticed I didn’t have the desire to play with them as much. I’d play for a few minutes then I was tired. I realized I was becoming the fat a$$ dad sitting on the sideline while my kids played without me. That bothered me… though I didn’t admit it to anyone.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
My greatest challenge was actually my mood and this perpetual state of grumpiness/chronic stress. I finally realized that I was a sugar addict looking for my next fix. It caused me to have a general sense of grumpiness in my home and work life. My life filter was off. I just wasn’t me. I’d get stressed out over silly stuff. Of course this happened over the course of several years and I really didn’t see it until after I began P90 and Shakeology.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I liked that it was easy enough to do that I didn’t give up on it in the beginning, but by the end I was pushing myself and seeing great gains. I found I gained strength and toning without a lot of muscle soreness.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
First and foremost I lost 30 pounds! I can actually see muscles! I went from barely being able to perform 10 half pushups the first week to 26 full pushups on stands during the final Sculpt B workout in week 13!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I feel better about myself than I have in a long time. My general sense of self worth improved significantly. I became more confident. I found myself getting stressed less often. I found that my “grumpiness” was gone!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
First my Challenge Group held me accountable to my workouts. I missed very few. We posted daily what our workout was. Second I learned that I wasn’t alone in my dietary struggles. We celebrated our success and helped each other with failures. We shared ideas, meal pics, etc.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey?
He provided me a ton of great info in the beginning to support my nutrition planning. He illustrated the importance of proper meal planning. He taught us how to track accurately. Once the program was underway he was always available for questions. In our Challenge Group he’d offer support and suggestions without seeming preachy or over bearing.
