Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before joining Beachbody, I regularly went to the gym and spent an hour or more lifting weights with very little cardio. I became bored with the routine and the time wasted — driving to and from the gym, waiting for machines to open up, etc. I thought I was healthy and fit, but it turns out I was wrong!
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
In April 2015, I began to experience heart palpitations and shortness of breath for no apparent reason. After visiting a cardiologist, I learned that I had two hereditary heart conditions that I was previously unaware of. Though not immediately life-threatening, the news was enough to give me the spark I needed to make some serious lifestyle changes, instead of going on medication.1 At the same time, my wife decided to become a Beachbody Coach, after years of her utilizing the different programs. I quickly signed up under her, and began my quest to conquer P90X3. I was inspired to get healthy for myself, but to a greater degree, to be healthy for my wife and three-year-old son.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
My biggest challenge was overcoming my own opinions. I had always viewed at-home exercising as less effective than going to the gym and lifting weights. Even though I had never done a Beachbody program, I felt it would be too easy. I was proven wrong after my first day on P90X3. I was amazed by the level of intensity of the workout in just 30 minutes. After a week, I was addicted. Now, just three months removed from the “gym scene,” I can’t imagine ever going back.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I liked that P90X3 offered a little bit of everything. I never would have experienced yoga or Pilates on my own. Now I look forward to fitting in a weekend session, even though I’m finished with the program. Every day was something new, exciting, and challenging.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I started the program hoping to lose 5 to 10 lbs. After just 30 days, I had already hit my goal, and ended up losing an amazing 27 lbs.! With that said, my proudest achievement was mastering the Bound Side Angle yoga pose. The first time I tried it was a disaster. But week after week, I improved and now can do it like a lifelong pro. I never would have believed it could be done on Day 1, so I’m glad I stuck with it!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I have a new outlook on life. I feel better, I look better, and more importantly, I haven’t had a heart palpitation in over two months! My wife and I now incorporate health and wellness into nearly everything we do, making us a better couple and better parents along the way.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
It kept me accountable. It made me lose the excuses by seeing others find a way to fit in a workout every day. It also became a competition to do my best.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
My beautiful wife (and Coach) kicked my butt into gear, and wouldn’t let me give up. She made sure I had a free 30 minutes every day to complete my workout, and she helped accelerate my results by keeping my diet in check. I couldn’t have done it without her.
