Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I have always been very active. After lower back surgery in November 2014, I stopped all physical activity and my recovery was slow with lots of pain medicine.* A year later and 25 pounds over my normal weight, I was cleared to start physical therapy and some cardio, but no heavy weights or any crazy movements. However, I was not getting the results I wanted. I was not happy with how my body looked or how I was feeling about myself. Then I remembered that in early 2011 a friend gave me P90X as a gift, which I did for a month but didn’t finish the program. So it was time to dust it off and start it again. I cleared my kitchen from “junk food” and started meal prepping for the week.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I needed to change how I felt about myself and how my body looked. I wanted to be active again and be able to conduct physical training with my group. I had gained so much weight after my lower back surgery that I couldn’t even button a few pairs of jeans that I had purchased only a couple years back. I didn’t feel like doing anything and was always tired. My daily food intake consisted of fast food or skipping meals. So my inspiration and motivation was setting a goal to complete P90X and be healthier.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge was that after back surgery I had limited flexibility. I had to start a program that gave me the opportunity to start at my own pace and with alternative moves. I found all that in P90X. The first month I took it easy and got to know the moves. After 30-plus days of P90X, I began to notice that I was getting more flexible and was completing the exercises. Eating was a challenge also. Fast food and pizza were usually my lunch and dinner. The more I did P90X, I noticed I was enjoying the exercises and meal prepping for the week.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I truly liked the fact that P90X offered modified moves for the exercises. Also, I only needed a couple of dumbbells and a pull-up bar, instead of a whole gym of equipment.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I am completely satisfied and proud of the amazing results at the end of the 90 days. After the back surgery, I had lost all core strength and flexibility. Now I am more flexible and have core strength.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I feel better, look better, feel more energized, and have more strength. Meal prepping is part of my weekly routine. Now I can conduct physical training with my group. It feels good when people notice your body transformation, and let you know that you look good. I am motivated to start and finish another Beachbody program.
