INSANITY MAX:30 Results: Robert Lost 19 Pounds and Won $500!

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I’ve been fit for most of my adult life, but not necessarily looking as fit as I’d hoped to. I’ve run marathons and have been doing Beachbody programs for years, but none challenged me like MAX:30. By adding the abs portion, I was able to not only get much leaner, but at 52, look better and more toned than I have in many years. It’s a great feeling, almost like facing the potential aging process head-on. It’s been a great process.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
Turning 52, and deciding that I wanted to share all my years of exercise and health — being a vegan and having completed programs beginning with P90X, Power Half Hour, INSANITY (and ASYLUM), and T25. I wanted to be a Beachbody Coach. I’ve never posted a picture, however. I never really liked how I looked, but after this MAX:30 ab challenge, the outside feels like it is matching the inside for the first time.

What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
Being 52, and while I was in running shape, it’s a whole new ball game with this workout. I also have the challenge of working three jobs, one full-time and one teaching college 70 miles from my house. For several days a week, I had to get up at 3:30 in the morning to do my MAX:30, so I could leave for my teaching job at 5 AM, and then have enough energy to work my full-time job afterward. Despite that, I feel like I overcame the obstacle, and ended up feeling and looking better than I ever have.

What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I loved that it was 30 minutes (plus an extra 10 or 15 for the ab routine), and that the people in the videos were struggling with it too — “MAXING out” as it were. Each time you did it, you tried not only to go further than your own previous time, but to be challenged by the other participants as well. I like the fact that Shaun T says it’s the hardest workout he’s ever created, and I was still able to get through it.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I lost nearly 20 pounds, my pants went down two inches (so they are fitting again), and I’ve even had to go down a notch on my belt. I have a pretty good six-pack for a 52-year-old guy. My arms, despite not really doing anything specific for them (other than push-ups and an occasional tricep dip on one of the Tabata workouts), are bigger and more toned, as is my chest and back, and even my butt — thanks to all those planks and burpees. I never thought I’d lose the love handles, which, despite thousands of push-ups and leg raises over the years, never quite went away.


How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I’ve decided to become a Beachbody Coach. I feel confident, as much on the outside as inside, to give back, encourage, and hopefully inspire others to utilize Beachbody products for a healthier lifestyle as well.

How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Anne is unfailingly positive and encouraging, and has been there with me every step of the way. She is not hands-off, but knows just the amount of pressure and attention to pay to motivate you.

How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, or digestion/regularity?
I love Shakeology. I’m a vegan, so having the opportunity to have a non-dairy supplement, with so much protein and so tasty, is probably my favorite part of the workout! I make one for after my workout, just as I hit the road in the pre-sunrise!

How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program affect any existing health conditions you have?
It certainly sustained my health. I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years and a vegan for three (and subsequently have low cholesterol levels). I have also kept in shape, including running marathons. I have always had a low blood pressure, and because of running, a low resting heart rate. I was getting too heavy, however, and my blood pressure, while still normal, had risen. With Shakeology, and utilizing MAX:30, I was able to lower my heart rate, lower my cholesterol back to its previous levels during my 20s and 30s, and also have a highly balanced, non-dairy meal every day.+

Did you achieve any other measurable improvements with a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (e.g. blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides, etc.)?
Again, my blood pressure did go down, as did my pulse levels. My blood sugar levels were improved and even more greatly stabilized.+
