Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I hated looking at pictures of myself or catching an accidental glimpse of myself in the mirror. I was embarrassed and ashamed! I did my best to hide my body by buying clothes that would cover it up. I was in denial that I had let myself become obese. I would see pictures and say I don’t look like that. I only shopped at one clothing store because I knew they carried my size, and it felt comfortable because the girls in the store were my size. My body was sore and ached. I would get off work and veg out on the couch because I was so tired, instead of spending time with my family. All that has changed.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I always knew I didn’t want to be 260 lbs. Who wants to be 260lbs? I was in major denial though. I would tell myself I am not that big. I am not obese, I am just thicker or a little overweight. Deep down I knew I was obese and it was out of control. I was at a family camping trip, and on the last day of the trip we decided to buy a pizza at a local pizza place in Tahoe, California where we were camping. I overate the pizza as I usually did. Somewhere in the wee hours of the morning around 3 a.m. I woke up with heart burn so bad it was coming up in my throat. As I lay there thinking of my options to leave my sleeping bag in freezing cold weather and pitch black dark because it hurt to lay down, and I felt I needed to regurgitate. I asked myself why I do this to myself. I ate myself to sickness, and this was a frequent occurrence. In that moment I decided it was time. This had to end.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
I had many great challenges that P90X, P90X3, INSANITY, and the 21 Day Fix have helped me with. I remember trying do a lunge one day one and crying. I could not do a single lunge. My knee would not bend and I thought I was going to fall. Nutrition was a major challenge for me. I am a very picky eater, and I was not eating anything healthy by any means when I started. I was addicted to sugar and fast food. Shakeology helped me with that it curbed my cravings, kept me full, and gave my body the nutrition is was crying for. I love the nutrition guides that each program offers. My favorite far is P90X3 nutrition guide. It offers lots of choices, and the design is easy to find foods that are healthy and I like. I really liked the 21 Day Fix nutrition system as well. It took a lot of guesswork out.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I absolutely love Tony Horton’s P90X and P90X3 series. I decided to pick up INSANITY as a challenge! I became a Coach and I was running my first Challenge Group when I decided it was time to push myself outside my comfort zone and try something different and more challenging for me. Something I was afraid of. I was not a cardio person at all! I love Shaun T, too! It makes me say okay, this is not that bad. I also like the pace. He gets my heart rate going and up and gives me a second to catch my breath to go some more. It makes it really easy for me to talk back to him and sometimes say some not so nice things, but I still push play and do push through it all.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
In my very first round of P90X, I lost about 60 pounds, and I have lost over 100 pounds overall. With INSANITY, I gained huge muscle and tone definition. I can see it in abs and arms the most. Most of my workouts started out very modified and most of the program I can complete without modifications now. I have an abundance of energy, and I am just overall a happy person. I have balance, strength, and confidence. I run down and up stairs now, and I do not hold the rails. I wear clothes that are form fitting, and I am not hiding my body. I am like a teenager taking a selfie of myself on a daily basis to see what it looks like. I love to see pictures of myself. I am most proud of two things: one – my weight loss, and two – how strong I am and feel. I want to get stronger. I want to live life to its fullest.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I am now confident, happy, and full of energy. I am not longer embarrassed or ashamed of how I look. I do not try to hide my body in clothes, imperfections and all. I want to show them off. I am so proud of myself! I love life. I want to share with people all the time how great I feel. That’s why I finally became a Coach. On a regular basis they are asking me what I am doing and giving me compliments. The compliments feel wonderful, but I enjoy passing on the knowledge of how great it all makes me feel, emotionally and physically, much more. My habits have changed completely. I used to skip breakfast, and now it’s my largest meal. My choices of food have completely changed. My days start off every day with a workout, and I do lots of planning. The planning is not a chore anymore. It’s my routine. I have realized this is a life long journey, and it is forever because this is the only way I want to feel. I never want to feel like her (the old me) again. So any change I made, or make, I ask myself “can, or will, I do this for the rest of my life?”. So I feel like the challenge is never really complete. It’s just the start.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
During my P90x journey there were a couple, or few, workouts missed and a few cheat meals. Not during my Challenge Group. During the challenge I did every workout, and I followed and planned my nutrition. The members of this Group kept me motivated, and I did not want to let them down. I wanted my results to show them I gave this my all. I wanted this for my team as much as I wanted it for me. They were awesome, a very active Group of like-minded people who I now feel connected to.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey?
A huge shout of to my positive, encouraging, motivated, and selfless coach Todd . He was there every step of the way participating and encouraging everyone. He gives so much of his time and always willing to answer questions. He makes really cool funny videos too that just crack me up. He deserves all his success in life not just for his hard work but also because he is such a giving person.
How did a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program (such as Shakeology® or Beachbody Ultimate Reset®) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, digestion/regularity?
P90x Results & Recovery Formula truly did help my body recover and not feel as sore the next day. I won’t ever stop using it now. What a difference it made in how my body felt so I could perform well the next workout. Furthermore, I did not use Shakeology until the P90x3 Challenge Group and it is something else I won’t stop using and have been using with INSANITY too. It really does keep me full and curve cravings. I love the taste and one place I fall short sometimes is with my vegetables.
