Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before I started P90 I was obese. I hated the way that I looked and hated that my wife and kids had to be seen with me in public. Granted, there are many people out there that were far worse off than me, it doesn’t change that I was so self conscious about the fact that every shirt I owned was tight around the belly. I struggled with steps. It hurt my knees to get up when I had been sitting too long. I was closer to being a stationary object than even a low activity person. I had always liked the idea of getting out and doing things… I just always had a difficult time… well, getting out and doing things. It took too much effort, caused too much pain or discomfort, or required more energy than I had to vest in anything.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My youngest child had just turned three and I was unable to give him horse rides. I couldn’t ever play with him on the floor without first scouting for a spot near something I could use to lower myself down or lift myself up. Sometimes my son wasn’t interested in moving though and the longer this went on the more I was realizing just how much of an impact my weight was having on not only my quality of life, but the quality of life of my family as well. I couldn’t button half the dress shirts I owned around my mid-section. I couldn’t even pull up a few pair of jeans I had purchased only a few years back. I was eating a day’s worth of calories in a single meal’s worth of pizza or fast-food. I was destroying my self image and my family’s image of me was slowly starting to deteriorate. It was time for a change… long past time.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
Eating. If it was greasy or salty I wanted it. If I wasn’t hungry but I knew I’d liked it, I’d eat it. If I was eating pizza I would eat the entire thing, even if I was stuffed with two pieces remaining, just out of principle. Since I started doing P90 I forced myself to make dietary changes. At first they were hard, like sticking to P90 itself was… at first. Then, just as I grew to love doing the P90 program on a daily basis and would look forward, throughout the working, for the exercises I enjoyed most, I began looking forward to salads, to avocado, to apples and carrots. I used to think that my energy drinks were the best drink in existence, water has become an unexpected goldmine. As the days of doing P90 continued, not only was I finding the workouts more enjoyable and the food more enjoyable, I was finding the results provided by the combination of diet and exercise as inspiration to continue. With these results, I’m excited to see where the next 90 days takes me.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I have problems with my knees, sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re not. I liked the fact that I always had options for a modified move. I loved the fact that there was always enough energy to go around and that the moves used seemed to complement each other in a natural progression, especially when moving from the A disks to the B disks to the C disks. Most moves just felt like what I had been doing all along, just a tier higher in difficulty, so it never felt as though I was having to learn something new, just tweak something that was already familiar.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
Simply put, amazing. I lost almost 40 pounds in 90 days, I lost 9 inches off my belly. For the first time in over a decade I am seeing a hint of definition in my mid-section, sides and back. I don’t have a beach body yet, but I have a body I can proudly take to the beach
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I have more energy. I am generally more happy with the day to day of my life. I rarely notice knee pain when out and about. I can play with my son wherever and whenever he wants. I can take him into the back yard and chase him or have him chase me. I now walk miles a day just to do it. But not only has my life changes, my family’s life has changed too. My three year old is helping me identify what foods are healthy and is beginning to make healthy choices because he sees the decisions his dad’s making. The other day I picked up dinner as a treat and my son’s meal came with an option of a cookie or apple slices and although he had already had two apples that day, he said he wanted apples because they were healthy.
