Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before Beachbody, my wife and I were in a rut when it came to health, fitness, and nutrition. Rut is a nice way of putting it. We ate so bad and exercised so little that we depended on over 12 cups of coffee to get us through the day (most of which was spent doing as little as possible). We ate whatever was easy and tasted good. Poor diet gave me chronic heartburn problems, which I needed meds for every day for two years. Because of lack of exercise, I was also a band-aid. Having a physically demanding job and working a side job doing construction wrecked my body. My lower back problems were causing me so much grief, I started to struggle at work so I would take muscle relaxants. I felt like I had aged a decade in three years…Another part of my rut was just how negative I was about things. I didn’t see a way out, and figured this was life now and it sucked. I hated the way I felt about myself, and who I had become.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My wife inspired me to start exercising again. After watching her do the 21 Day Fix workouts, I decided to take action also. After the birth of our second son, we both stopped taking care of ourselves and focused on our boys, instead of us and our health. My goal was to lose weight and tone up.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge was that I did not know what to do in the gym anymore. I would waste my time walking around aimlessly not knowing exactly what I was going to do. I lacked the motivation to get organized and follow a plan. The “Get It Done” nutrition plan was great and easy to follow with all the pictures and recipes. At the end of Alpha phase, I felt somewhat confident with all the moves and exercises that I learned. But I still struggled with a few of them. After the Beta phase, I felt like I had mastered all the moves.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
T25 is a fast-paced, high-intensity workout program that uses mostly body weight and light weights. The workouts last 25 minutes, so you know you can fit them in your day.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I was able to lose almost 20 pounds. I was able to play sports and feel like I did when I was in my early 20s. My chronic back pain and heartburn are gone!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
It has all changed for me. Beachbody has been the breath of fresh air we needed to pull us out of our rut and get our shit together — not only for me and Rox, but for our boys too! My energy is up; it feels like the fog that I was in has been lifted. I can see all the changes we have gone through, and they are amazing! I never want to be in that rut again. This is the answer because it covers every failing aspect I had — health, fitness, nutrition, and personal development! I love reading or listening to the audio books that are recommended. They fuel my mind with positivity. I’m excited for the future now. If our lives have changed drastically in five months, where will we be in five years?
