Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
As a busy mom of four-year-old twins and a one-year-old, I’d spent as long as I could remember looking after everyone else but me. I never thought I could enjoy exercise, being fit, and eating healthy and I never thought I could fit the changes into my lifestyle. I didn’t hate myself as such — but I knew that I wasn’t living at my most healthful.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I saw a Challenge Group starting up and I just made a complete impulse decision to go for it. By the time the challenge started, my second bag of Shakeology had been shipped out and I remember thinking, “Well! I’ve made quite a big investment, I better do this right!” I also knew that being healthier would make me a better, more patient mom and wife, and I wanted to be able to chase around after my kids all summer long!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
Portion control! The 21 Day Fix taught me so much about how much to eat. I’ve always liked veggies and lean proteins (in addition to all the treats, of course!) so it was learning about moderation, portion control, and what types of food to eat that was the biggest challenge — and has made the biggest change.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I loved the containers and nutrition plan in the 21 Day Fix. I also liked that the exercises were challenging, but not impossible. Seeing results fairly quickly kept me motivated to keep going! After a few months, I started T25. I loved the way it made me sweat and challenged my core. I love Shaun T as a trainer; he is so motivating for me.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
My skin feels better, I sleep better, and I am more patient. My core is tighter than it’s ever been, and I actually weigh 10 lbs. less than I did when I was in grade 12 (18 years ago). I am wearing a smaller size than I’ve ever bought in my adult life. And people are actually telling me that I inspire them, which makes me feel so proud of myself. I can hardly believe that results like these could be seen in such a short time per day. Also, while continuing with my DVDs, I’m starting to do a lot more exercise outside. I haven’t run in years, but I took off and did a hilly 5k without stopping (and I attribute that to the cardio work in the DVDs!). I also recently went for a hike with a friend that turned into a 10k run. I was able to keep up and really enjoyed it. Most of all, I enjoy exercise, being active, and eating healthy. It’s been a total lifestyle change for the better and my family is better for it as well.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
As above, I’m just much happier in myself. I look at old pictures of myself and can’t really remember what it felt like to be that overweight. I’m showing a good example for my kids, my family, my friends, and letting them know that change is possible, at any age! I started Coaching really quickly because I knew I could change people’s lives; I’m enjoying that element as well!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
Having a group of ladies to hold me accountable was key as far as I’m concerned. Knowing that everyone had been through what I was going through, giving suggestions on how to push through a workout, sharing recipes, everything. I felt I had a responsibility to hold up my end of the bargain and help push through with the team!
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Rebecca was always there to answer any questions I had, and she runs really fun, really engaging Challenge Groups. She’s the one who inspired me to be a Coach in the first place (without pressuring me!) and has been a great mentor.
How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, digestion/regularity?
I found that Shakeology really curbs my cravings — if I can get that Shakeo in before noon, I can resist treats so much better. I also have E&E, which really helps me push through the tough program workouts and strenuous outdoor workouts that I’ve started doing.2
