Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I was always fit growing up and used to lift weights when I was in college. After I got married, I got comfortable and just gained weight. I always used food as a comfort. I work a desk job, so I felt pretty lazy when I would get home and never had the energy to do much.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I lost my mother at a young age. I have two kids of my own with a third on the way. I see everything my mother missed out on in my life. I finally had a family member come up to me and say, “If you can’t control your weight, another man is going to be raising your kids.” At that point, all the pain I went through growing up not having a mother just smacked me in the face. From that day, I set time to make a change. I tried FOCUS T25 and P90X3 and just got burned out. My goal was to make a change. I wanted to lose weight, but I also wanted to get some muscle tone.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge I faced was just getting in a routine of doing the program and making smart decisions when it came to eating.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
It pushed me to the max. I found a second gear in my life. When I didn’t think I could finish the exercise, I would hit pause, take a deep breath, and free my mind. I got to the point where the pain was just weakness leaving my body. Sagi was great. He explained everything so well, and kept you motivated when you wanted to quit. Most people would watch the DVD and say, “No way, I couldn’t do that.” Body Beast helped me do things I never thought I could do.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I became healthy again. The mental part is the hardest thing to get past. Once you get past the mental part, you can accomplish anything. Something I learned during the program was that it is okay to fail, but never quit. If I can’t lift anymore with weights, it’s okay to drop the weight but finish your reps.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I’m no longer the overweight person in the group. I can teach my kids and my wife how to become healthy and live a better lifestyle. After seeing old photos, I can never let my body get like that again. To be 5’9″ and have to wear 2x and 3x clothing is so embarrassing.
