Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
That moment when your heart drops, there’s a never-ending pit in your stomach, and your whole world turns upside down. Last summer, everything as I knew it fell apart. Everything I was working so hard toward and striving for was no longer in my reach. My family had to suddenly survive on a one-income household, and the pressure was on. Our family was previously on the track to eventually have me be a stay-at-home mom, which was my dream. However, to make ends meet, I had to switch jobs and work five days per week instead of my three 12-hour shifts, leaving less of my precious time with my kids. I also kept my previous job and had to pick up extra shifts. I was already struggling to lose all the baby weight from giving birth to my son a few months earlier (I gained 50 lbs.), and this added stress did not help. I was losing sleep from the baby being up at night, now losing energy, losing faith, losing hope, losing love, losing out on this life God gave me.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My friend Anna Horváth helped me keep my eyes on God. She helped me fight through my feelings. She helped me fight for love, fight for faith, fight for hope, fight to get my life back on track. What I needed after I got my mind back on track was my energy back so that I could keep going. My friend of almost 26 years, Kiera Elise, helped me see that I needed to make time for me again. She knew I had zero time to spare between my jobs, household duties, a three-year-old, and a baby. She helped me see that once I gave myself just 20 minutes as many days of the week as I could, I would start having more energy and feeling good about myself again. She reminded me of one of the many reasons I went to school to get my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (the study of the human body and movement), became a certified gerontologist (the study of aging), a baccalaureate in nursing, and a minor in psychology — to help others through this thing called life.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
My biggest challenge before beginning the program was getting over all of my excuses. Although lack of time was a legitimate barrier, as well as lack of energy and money, I knew they were still my excuses for not taking action in some way. My Beachbody Coach, Kiera Elise, stuck by me for roughly six months, encouraging me and helping me take baby steps until I could afford to buy a program and get started. Once I started, she continued to encourage, motivate, and inspire me not to give up, no matter how tired I was. I eventually found my routine and realized that this program gave me the energy I needed, which gave me more time!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I chose 22 Minute Hard Corps because I needed to tighten up my postpartum body.§ My favorite part of the program is that is only 22 minutes! This was perfect given my time limitations!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
The results I achieved were much, much more than physical. I went into the program hoping to achieve a physical transformation, but I gained much more than that! My physical results included firming up my abdomen, eradicating the cellulite on my hips, losing fat and gaining muscle, and gaining strength. I was able to fit back into my clothes again! When I started the program, I couldn’t even do one push-up. Now I can do 10 regular and 25 modified. Non-physical results include an increased self-esteem, more energy, and joy. The achievement I am most proud of is not giving up on myself, no matter how hard it got, no matter how little time I had — I made this a priority and stuck to it!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
My life has changed in many ways. For starters, I am now helping others find themselves again, feel good about themselves again, take some time for themselves again. I have added Health, Wellness, and Fitness Coach to my resume as a Beachbody Coach! Even though I now have three jobs trying to make ends meet, I have more energy and am happier and excited about life again. I love my new job and my newfound positive outlook on life!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
To me, the best part of the Challenge Group was seeing that nobody is perfect. The support was amazing in that everyone understood if one day you just didn’t get to your workout. They never made me feel like a failure because of it. Instead, we encouraged each other to pick back up where we left off and keep on going.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Kiera spent six months encouraging me, motivating me, and inspiring me before I finally made the active decision to do something. She never once complained or made me feel like an inconvenience. She never once made me feel like I was taking up her time. And she continues to encourage me today on my new journey as a Coach.
