Meet Corwin K, age 38 from Saskatoon, SK Canada.
He entered The Beachbody Challenge in January 2015 and won $1,500!
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I had done a few different Beachbody programs over the years and tried other types of programs as well, but I really wanted to get much better results than I had attained in the past.
I also really wanted the six-pack abs that I’d never been able to achieve. I always felt that my stomach was too rounded and that it stuck out further than my chest, and it wasn’t flat like I wanted it to be. I tried most of the time to eat well but thought that because I was exercising almost every day, I could eat all those treats that seemed to always be around at work and still get the body that I wanted.
Always being considered the skinny guy for most of my life, I felt I was just flabby and looked out of shape for someone who worked out almost every day.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
In my research into health and fitness over the years, I had come to learn that the food that you eat is really 80-90% of the battle to losing weight and changing your body.
I thought, however, that I could overcome the poor food choices because I thought I was working out harder than most people. What ended up inspiring me to change my life though, were the daily posts of all the Beachbody Challenge winners.
I thought to myself, “how is it that most, if not all, of these people had more weight to lose than me, and yet they’ve attained a better physique than I’ve ever been able to achieve, even though I’ve been working out for years?”
So, I decided if all of these people could change their lives, there was no reason I couldn’t do it too!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge I faced before the program was resisting all the little treats at work and goodies hiding in my pantry at home. It’s like there’s a little voice inside my head saying to me “just eat some” every time I walked past those treats at work and at home.
Beachbody helped me to overcome this challenge by continually reminding me each time I logged into the website and to the SuperGym that there were people, just like me, putting their best effort into overcoming their own challenges.
Shakeology also helped me with my sweet tooth by giving me a delicious and nutritious treat that I could look forward to having for my lunch each and every day.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
The best part about P90X3 was that it was only 30 minutes/day! I remember Tony Horton, in the promo videos, talking about how in the original P90X, the workouts were usually about an hour and that people would not push as hard in the 1st half hour so that they could save themselves for the 2nd half.
But now, with P90X3, I was able to really go all out right from the beginning to the end and yet still get just as great of a workout as before in only half the time.
Also, what I liked about the program is the trainer, Tony Horton. He always makes working out so much fun and making me laugh, which helped me keep pushing through even during the most challenging workouts. Lastly, I liked that I could get these amazing results in such a short period of time if I would just follow the program as it was designed!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I went from a body fat of 18% down to 9.6%. I ended up losing 13 pounds of fat and gaining 7 pounds of muscle, which I didn’t think was possible at the same time.
All of this I accomplished with just 90 days of P90X3 and 4 weeks of the Elite Block. My results were even better than I ever expected in such a short period of time. What I’m most proud of is that I can finally see my abs! At 38 years old, I look and feel better than I did at 28 or even 18.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
The biggest change in my life is the confidence that I’ve gained. I now believe that my ultimate goal of weighing 170 pounds @ 7% body fat, I set almost 5 years ago, is now attainable (aiming to get there by my 40th birthday!).
Also, the confidence not only in myself and what I can accomplish, but having confidence in my ability to help others attain their health and fitness goals, too.
Just this month, I finally started a Beachbody Challenge Group with friends and family members. I’m so excited to help them change their bodies and their lives for the better and it will bring me so much joy to see them accomplish their goals.
I asked the question the other day of my group what their “why” was for starting their fitness program, and one of them stated “wanting to be able to spend many years (healthy) with my Grand Children.” That comment really hit home, because one of those “grand children” is my beautiful 4 year old daughter.
This is the reason I now Coach!
