Some fruits, like apples and bananas, are now available year-round, but fresh cranberries are still very much a symbol of fall. They start to appear in grocery stores just before Thanksgiving, and disappear soon after. Enjoy them while you can! This smoothie uses a combination of
mouth-puckering unsweetened cranberry juice and fresh or frozen berries with sweet Strawberry Shakeology for a balanced, invigorating flavor that will surely wake up your tastebuds.
And, in this smoothie, cranberries have made best friends with another unexpectedly cheerful winter fruit – oranges. Specifically, the most flavorful part of the orange, the peel. It’s filled with intoxicating aroma and even a small amount grated into this smoothie will make a big impact.
Use a microplane to grate just the bright orange part of the peel, avoiding the white pith underneath. You don’t really have to scoop it all into a measuring spoon to see if you have a full teaspoon, any amount will add tons of intense flavor. If you don’t have a microplane, use a vegetable peeler or small, sharp knife to remove the outermost layer of the peel, and then finely chop it before tossing it into the blender.
Since cranberry season is so short, and even frozen berries become hard to find, we wanted to figure out a way to enjoy this smoothie year-round. It turns out that the tartness of unsweetened cranberry juice and orange zest also taste great with frozen cherries or raspberries. Add a little bit of flair with spices like ground clove or nutmeg.

Cranberry Orange Shakeology
- ¾ cup water
- ¼ cup unsweetened cranberry juice
- 1 cup ice
- 1 scoop Strawberry Shakeology
- ½ cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 tsp . finely grated orange peel (orange zest)
Place water, cranberry juice, ice, Shakeology, cranberries, and orange peel in blender; cover. Blend until smooth.
