Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
By the end of my freshmen year of college, I found myself at 263 pounds; I was obese and miserable. With transitioning from high school to college, everything was different- but food was the one familiar thing to me. So I ate, and ate, and ate. Eating greasy, fried food made me feel happy in the moment, but I would go to my room and cry because I hated the way I looked. I also hated the way I felt. I could hear myself breathing when I was simply just sitting. I could barely climb up the ladder to get into my bed. I feared going to class because I could barely fit in the seats. Along with my health, I found that my happiness was suffering too. I started distancing myself from my family and friends because I was so ashamed of the way I looked. I so badly wanted to lose weight, but I was too scared to try. I had no clue where to start or what to do. And even if I did know what to do, I thought I would fail. I thought I would get made fun of. I thought that I would have to do it all alone
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
With my health slowly declining, I was tired of feeling the way I felt. I was tired of looking in the mirror and hating the way I looked. I wanted to walk around with confidence, instead of in fear of seeing an old friend who knew me before I gained all of my weight from college. I was tired of making excuse after excuse. That is the reason why when my aunt bought the 21 Day Fix program and asked me to join her, I said yes right away. My aunt and uncle (being over 50 years old) are my role models because they have always lived a healthy lifestyle. They have always seemed so happy and healthy- and that is exactly what I wanted. Ultimately, the thing that inspired me the most (to begin my weight loss journey) was when my uncle and I set a goal for myself to lose 100 pounds in a year. Being overweight my whole life, I couldn’t even imagine the way I would look – but that imagination of what I would look like (and the support from my family) pushed me to begin my transformation.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge I faced before 21 Day Fix was the fear of getting off track. Being overweight my whole life, I had tried so many diets and weight-loss pills. Sure I would lose 20 pounds here and there, but each time I lost weight I would gain it all back and then some. The 2 1Day Fix program provides containers that make eating healthy easy and fun! The program also includes workout videos that incorporate both strength building and cardio. It was so rewarding to see how much I improved with every week. With the eating plan and the workout plan, 21 Day Fix was the perfect program to help me stay on track and stay motivated. It was the perfect program to show me what living a healthy lifestyle actually looked like. I believe that all Beachbody programs are designed similarly to this — to produce results that last. Beachbody helped me by providing me a Coach to help support and motivate me along the way, but also by providing the flexibility of working out in my dorm on my own time.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
My favorite thing about the 21 Day Fix program, are the containers to measure my food in. These made eating healthy easy for me! With the containers, there was no way that I could cheat and get off track or overeat. Autumn provided a book with dos-and-don’ts to healthy eating as well as some recipes. This showed me that eating healthy doesn’t have to be bland! Another thing I really like about the 21 Day Fix program is that the workout videos have people with various body types and ages doing the workouts. Being 263 pounds when I started, I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to handle the workouts, but seeing someone who is a little overweight, going for the full 30 minutes, pushed me to keep trying. They were a constant reminder to never give up (even if I did have to modify). I love how the program is designed to fit the needs for anyone and everyone. Autumn does a great job of motivating you no matter where you are at in your weight loss journey.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I am so proud of myself for reaching my goal of losing 100 pounds in a year! With the 21 Day Fix program, I lost almost 20% of my body fat, 92 inches total, and have started to see muscle definition in my arms and legs. When I first started 21 Day Fix, I had to do every exercise in the workout videos using modification. Throughout the workouts I would have to take a 10 second rest during the sets because I was out of breath and did not have the endurance to go the full time. Each week I noticed that I was getting stronger and stronger- until eventually I did the whole workout without taking breaks during the sets. I went from barely being able to do a push-up on my knees, to being able to do 20 burpees in 30 seconds. The results I have achieved from Beachbody weren’t just weight loss and muscle gain though. I also achieved a boost in self confidence, a real smile on my face, and a new, happier outlook on life. I am now able to look in the mirror and love what I see, both inside and out.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
My life has completely changed since I completed the 21 Day Fix. Before I started the program, I thought I was going to dread eating healthy, and working out everyday. I thought that I was just going to lose the weight, then go back to my old habits. Now that I know how it feels to workout and eat healthy everyday, and now that I have seen the results that have come from that, I never want to stop. I plan to keep using Beachbody programs to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. I love the way living a healthy lifestyle makes me feel. I went from feeling unhappy and feeling worthless, to feeling excited about life and being as happy as I have ever been. I used to hate when people would bring up the topic of eating healthy and working out; it would always make me feel so uncomfortable. Now that I know what living a healthy lifestyle is like, I love when the topic is brought up. I love being able to inspire others with my story and the mission of Beachbody.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey?
My Team Beachbody Coach (Daniel Crump) did a wonderful job in supporting me on my journey (and he still is)! He was constantly checking in to see how I was doing with working out and eating healthy. Daniel was always there if I had questions about Beachbody products or programs and continued to congratulate me on my success during my journey. Daniel’s kindness and his motivating story was a big reason why I fell in love with the Beachbody community. It was so surprising to me to see how Daniel cared so much to see me succeed. It just goes to show that Beachbody is not only workout CD’s and tips for weight loss; it is much more. It is also a wonderful community filled with great people who all want to see each other stay motivated throughout their journey from start to finish. I have been wanting to submit my before and after pictures to Beachbody, but I never had the confidence to do so, until Daniel actually encouraged me and told me how proud he was of me.
