Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
For anyone who remembers me growing up, I was slim and in shape. I was always active in sports throughout the year. After graduating high school, I started not to be so active in sports and did not care what I would eat. If there was a contest on how many wings you could eat, or how many ounces of steak, or a burger-eating challenge, I was in. Working on the road for most of adult life, I would eat a lot of fast food and order unhealthy foods in restaurants. I was not taking care of my body and was becoming overweight. I realized it was time for a new lifestyle of working out and eating healthier, but I did not know where to start. I made jokes about my weight saying that this belly was well paid for and worked hard to get the belly I have.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I was 204 lbs. when I started working out and eating healthier back in January 2016. I had people over the Christmas holidays worried about my health and how much I was overweight. This gave me a wake-up call that I had to follow through with this new plan of mine and not to quit! When I was back home over the holidays, I was talking with a family member and I had told him when you see me in April at the family reunion, I will be down about 25 lbs. I had set my goal to try and lose 10 lbs. a month to start. By summertime, I wanted to be down about 40 to 50 lbs. and have some tone and muscle. I knew that to reach my goals, I would have to stay focused and work hard.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
Have you ever had a New Year’s resolution that you never followed through on? Well for the past six or seven years, I had always said at New Year’s this is the year that I will start eating healthier and working out. I would start off strong and then quit after two or three weeks. I used every excuse in the book not to eat healthier and work out. Some of my excuses were: “It is too cold outside to go to the gym; the gym is always packed; tomorrow is another day; or I have to work out early in the morning or late at night.” Joining Beachbody, seeing the results of others, and being in Challenge Groups helped change my lifestyle, and now I am not the guy who starts and quits working out! I am a new person and wish I would have started this sooner!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I usually had an issue with not eating breakfast and big suppers. I didn’t know how to portion-size my meals, and I would always eat way too much! By starting with 21 Day Fix, I learned how much to eat and started to spread the food out over the course of the day. I went from eating one or two meals a day to eating five or six meals a day. I really loved the workouts as I was just getting back into working out.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
Over the course of the 13 weeks, I was able to lose 36 lbs., 10.5 inches off my waist, 5 inches off my chest, and 6.5 inches off my hips. I am proud of them all as I achieved more than I anticipated! I had set a goal of losing 25 lbs. and to lose more feels awesome!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
Ever since I started sharing my results, I have inspired many people that anyone can achieve success with a little bit of hard work! One that really hits home is how my grandfather is proud of me and has been bragging about me to all the people in his retirement home. Being able to inspire people and help them through their new lifestyle change makes me feel good!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
Being able to see how everyone else was doing, as well as the support for each and every one of them, helped me through my journey over the past three months. Seeing that I am not the only one who struggles with nutrition and workouts, and then the support you get from everyone, helps you get on track. Being in the Group and supporting others who struggle makes you feel like family. When everyone struggled, they all held their own accountability, and it helped you when you struggled. I am very thankful that I joined the Challenge Groups, because they helped me stay focused and on track. I am glad that I was able to inspire others to stay focused by my hard work and determination!
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Alida was amazing! I am very fortunate to have such a great Coach and friend invite me into the Groups! As I transformed into a Coach, I received a lot of support from her throughout the first month. Having her as a Coach has showed me how to help others!
How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, or digestion/regularity?
I started using Shakeology in March and am really enjoying it as it gives me energy!2 I wasn’t too sure about it at the beginning, but wish I would have started sooner with Shakeology.
