When we asked Beachbody Super Trainers Joel and Jericho, the creators of CORE DE FORCE, to tell us about their favorite Thanksgiving foods and family traditions, we secretly wanted to know if they pig out — if they fill their plates with all of the trimmings and then go in for dessert. It turns out, they are human! They celebrate the holiday like many of us do, enjoying traditional family dishes, but with a healthy attitude (and a good workout to start the day off right, of course).

Jericho’s Thanksgiving Favorites
Every family has a dish that makes the holiday special, something that is served every year because without it, the meal just wouldn’t be the same. For Jericho, that dish is her grandmother’s famous biscuits.
She told us, “I grew up in a family with deep Southern roots. We love to bake, especially during holidays. My late grandmother (we called her Mamaw) gave us her buttermilk biscuit recipe before she passed. Now, we make her biscuits for Thanksgiving and just about every other holiday. I love my Mamaw’s biscuits because they remind me of her. Not to mention, they are the best tasting biscuits in the world!”
We wish we could try those biscuits! Flaky biscuits are one of those foods where it doesn’t pay to mess with perfection. Butter, and lots of it, is what makes them fluffy on the inside and gives them a delicately crisp exterior. While it’s our job to urge you to reach past the basket of biscuits, and serve a helping of whole-grain stuffing instead, who are we kidding? If Jericho is having biscuits, so can you – especially if they’re your grandmother’s famous recipe. Just try to stick to one biscuit, and skip the extra pat of butter.
What else does Jericho’s family bake? If you guessed pie, you’re right. “We especially love pie. You name it, we make it… apple, pumpkin, pecan, blackberry, chocolate crème… I could go on! Thanksgiving is probably the only time of year I make or eat pie, so my twin sister, Jill, and I go all out. It’s our thing and we get really competitive!”
We love pie, too, and agree that this holiday feast should end with at least one (OK, several) pies to finish the meal. You can be proud to serve your family these healthier versions of their holiday favorites; sure, they have less fat and fewer calories, but your family will love them because they are delicious!
Jericho celebrates the day with family, and makes sure it’s not all about indulgence. “Now that I have a family of my own,” she told us, “we’ve started new holiday traditions like getting in a family workout as soon as the day begins. We also like to incorporate lots of healthy dishes to balance out the indulgences.”

Joel’s Thanksgiving Favorites
For Joel, the best part of Thanksgiving dinner are the side dishes. He told us, “I love traditional turkey stuffing. I don’t care how it’s made as long as it tastes traditional, with no added bleh.” We’re not sure what could ever make stuffing taste “bleh,” because we love all types, but we’re guessing Joel prefers bread stuffing. What makes stuffing even better? Joel told us, “It has to be served with mashed taters and gravy, of course. That combination always makes me think of my family being together. When I was growing up, I didn’t see everyone in my family very often, but we usually were all together for Thanksgiving.”

It may not happen frequently, but when Joel’s family does get together for a holiday meal, watch out! Like Jericho, Joel’s Thanksgiving dinner would not be complete without the bread, but in his family, they have a unique way of sharing it. He told us, “For as long as I can remember, the only way rolls are passed around a table is through the air. If you can’t catch it, then you don’t get to eat it. Thus, my family is not very welcome at restaurants when we all get together.”
