Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I was thin and active as a teen, and never had a weight problem. In my mid-30s, the weight started creeping up, but I just dismissed it as “getting older.” But finally in my 40s, I was tired of gaining weight and tried to do something about it. I tried diet after diet, and I’d lose and gain and lose and gain over and over again. The classic yo-yo dieter. Nothing was working long-term. I was becoming more and more depressed at my growing waistline. I tried to hide under loose clothing but I wasn’t fooling anyone. All of this eventually led to me developing an eating disorder, and I became an emotional binge eater. I turned to food for comfort. My body and joints ached and hurt all the time. I felt helpless but didn’t know how to break this unhealthy cycle.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
One day I stepped on the scales and 199 was staring back at me. I’m only 5’2″ and realized right then I was obese! I vowed to never see 200 lbs. on that scale and decided to finally do something about it. I also saw a pic of me from a friend’s wedding and just stared at it. Who was this person? How did I ever let myself get this big? At 54 years old, I knew I had to make big changes or all of this was eventually going to start affecting my health and shorten my life. I literally felt like I was digging my own grave with a fork and spoon.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
I had two huge challenges. First, I was so overweight and out of shape. My joints and back hurt all the time, and I couldn’t even walk long distances. Second, I was so addicted to sugar and junk food and had no idea how to have a healthy relationship with food. With the help of my Coach, I chose Turbo Jam. It was a huge struggle at first, but I eventually started looking forward to doing the workouts every day. I loved that there was a modifier and followed along as best as I could while I worked on building strength and stamina. The food plan was also easy to follow. The meals were delicious and easy to prepare. It took the guesswork out of meal planning, and I was full and satisfied every day. It wasn’t easy at first, as I struggled with breaking the junk food addictions and bad habits. Shakeology helped with the cravings and gave me the energy I needed to get through my workouts every day.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
As Chalene says, I found my soulmate workout in Turbo Jam! I was a cheerleader in school and loved dance. Doing Turbo Jam makes me feel like that cheerleader I once was! I love all the punches, kicks, and dancey moves. The workouts are so fun and the music is amazing. It keeps me motivated to keep going! And I love Chalene’s personality. I actually love to work out now and look forward to doing my Turbo Jam workouts every day! My inner cheerleader self is happy once again!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I lost 18.5 lbs. and so many inches all over, with 5 1/2 inches directly from my stomach in just the 60 days! I still have a lot more weight to lose but I am not stopping! This is just the beginning for me. More important than what I’ve lost so far is what I have gained. I feel amazing! I have so much energy. And I can already see a big difference in my fitness level. In the beginning, I struggled getting through the shorter 20-minute workouts. The first time I did the 45-minute cardio I thought I was going to die. It felt like two hours! By the end of the 60 days, I loved the 45-minute cardio. It flew by, and I couldn’t wait to do it again! I also no longer follow the modifier. I am jumping, punching, and kicking high with Chalene and the rest of the bunch. I’ve lost two pant sizes already and it feels so good to put on jeans I haven’t worn in years. I also love the muscle definition in my legs now and actually feel confident wearing shorts!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I feel amazing. I have so much more confidence now. The results so far have given me that confidence to continue on my journey and lose the rest of the weight. However, I no longer stress about that number on the scale. I’m just focused every day on eating healthy and working out. This has literally changed my life. I’ve overcome the emotional binge eating and actually look forward every day to cooking and creating healthy meals. This journey has already changed me emotionally more than it has physically. I’ve turned my unhealthy love for food into a love for health and fitness. So much so that I actually got Turbo Kick LIVE certified last week!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
I could not have done this without the Challenge Group. It was crucial to me in staying accountable and overcoming my struggles. To be able to see others going through the same struggles with me and to be able to share when I was having an off day made all the difference. It also is motivating when you see others having success. It pushed me to continue trying even on the days I felt like giving up. I feel like these ladies are my new best friends. They get me. Being a part of a Challenge Group taught me how to be consistent, which is the key factor that has derailed every time over the years.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
By creating and inviting me to the Challenge Group. She shared her knowledge every day on how to overcome the struggles — all the tips to make meal planning easier and how to be consistent with both meals and workouts. She also suggested personal development books and podcasts that helped me overcome the binge eating and to really become a better me inside and out. She believed in me and it made me believe in myself again.

Shakeology is amazing! It was crucial to me in helping to overcome the cravings. I also never used to eat breakfast, but Shakeology made it easy to learn to love breakfast. And it’s a quick and easy way to have that healthy breakfast every day. I now have more energy and for the first time in decades, I no longer have digestive irregularity issues!
