How did you get into fitness?
I was really into soccer, I was on a travel soccer team for guys and girls and I did cross country. Sports was pretty much my entire life.
What did you love about soccer?
The physicality of it. I love running, and my soccer coach changed my life. Everything had to be precise. You had to know what you were doing before you had the soccer ball and really had to read the game. It wasn’t mindless.
What’s being on a travel team like?
Every weekend you traveled to somewhere new and it was super competitive. I learned at a young age how to handle competition. Growing up you learn right away how to deal with a lot of personalities. I have four older brothers, so they toughened me up. But I’m glad about it now!
That probably comes into handy while you’re here shooting THE 20s! How would you describe your own approach to fitness now?
Circuit training is big for me. And jump rope. I incorporated it into my program here because I love it so much.
Do you have a favorite body part you like to work?
With what moves?
Russian twist, planks are always good…I teach planks a lot because most people can do that. It’s realistic.
Ok, let’s talk nutrition. You certainly know your stuff. How do you eat?
I eat five to six small meals and I time them out. I love breakfast. Breakfast is the number one thing. People who don’t have breakfast make me legit mad. I also make sure I’m getting my water in. A good trick is to have a cold glass of water before you eat because half the time you’re really thirsty, not hungry.
What’s your favorite breakfast?
I usually have oatmeal with fruit or yogurt with peanut butter protein granola. but lately I switched it over to Shakeology! I love Chocolate. I put a little almond milk in it, a banana, and some strawberries.
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure food?
Peanut butter. I take a spoonful and just eat it. I love it.
Yum. Any other nutrition tips?
Yeah, in college, I had a blog called Freshmen Fit Team, and I would write about how to go out and drink and still be healthy. I would bring protein bars and apples to the bar with me and I would prepare dinner beforehand because I knew I’d come back and be hungry.
